01:30
Hi ladies, today we are going to talk about setbacks, changing setbacks into comebacks. And as I was thinking about this episode, I really thought about my most recent setbacks in every area of life and the big topics of family business health. And I really think that there isn’t anything that I try where I don’t experience setbacks. In business. Yes, setbacks. Parenting, oh, yes, there’s always setbacks. I have a daughter who is exactly like me. And we often have setbacks in learning new routine, learning discipline, and just communicating with each other. And then in marriage, especially as we’re celebrating new milestones, we hit 10 years of marriage, but my husband and I are continually growing and growing in who the Lord is calling us to be, which is beautiful. But it’s challenging, because we have to relearn how to meet each other’s needs. We have to learn something new at each stage, we have to learn how to communicate, and we have to learn new boundaries. So I definitely experience setbacks in my marriage, when we hit one of those snags or when we are in these new seasons, or developing as individuals, and then coming together in marriage. We hit setbacks all the time.

03:03
And when I really lay it out like this, it kind of makes me feel like I should be the master of setbacks. I feel like I hit a setback in almost everything I try. But I don’t want to let that be a hang up. Let that setback be a stop sign. I can even experience setbacks in my health. And from time to time when something that I’ve done in the past, or something that has always worked for me, now stops. It just stops working. Especially as we’re aging. Ladies, I know you can relate as we’re hitting new stages, is we’re coming to the end of our cycles, if you know what I mean, and our hormones are shifting, things that have always worked for us in our health can stop working, and it can become burdensome and difficult to really continue. But I experienced setbacks. And Willie we all do.

03:59
So today, I want to encourage you if you’ve just had a setback, or if you’re thinking about starting a new path to health, or a new business, or a new hobby, I just want to have you brace yourself, because there will be setbacks. But when we know that there’s a chance for a setback, we can really just think about how we’ll approach it and how to work through it. So if you’re like me, and you don’t like setbacks, because setbacks really make me feel weak. They make me feel exposed, like I should have seen it coming. And since I couldn’t have prevented it. I somehow feel like a complete failure, and that I shouldn’t even try at all.

04:41
But setbacks make me want to quit. And a lot of my clients experience something similar or have left that setback in their health really derail their progress. And we’re going to dive into that today. My mind kind of wants to go into that shutdown mode. or that I didn’t get it right. Maybe you partner with perfectionism. And you’re kind of the same way, if it doesn’t all work out perfectly, then I should just stop or quit. But that’s not the right attitude to have. And I’m going to talk to you about some scripture and some mindset shift.

05:17
I oftentimes when I hit a setback, in that moment, usually I’m comparing myself to someone else’s success. And I might just be getting something new like with this business, I might be comparing my success to somebody that’s been in business for 10 or 15 years. And that’s really not fair. And when it comes to our health, sometimes we can do that, too. When we can decide that we’re going to do X, Y, and Z and really live a healthy lifestyle. And a setback happened, we can want to throw in the towel, because we’re comparing ourselves to somebody that’s been already survived some of these setbacks or has created really routines or boundaries around setbacks. And when we start to get in that comparison mindset, we all know that it can go downhill very quickly. So that’s just kind of how my mind works.

06:09
But why do we have setbacks? And especially as Christians, why can’t everything go right? Oftentimes, people outside our faith, use our setbacks, to kind of prove that our our faith isn’t for them, or that they tried to stand on the leg that God doesn’t really care or our lives would be perfect. But that’s just not true. Christians experience setbacks. So why do we have setbacks as Christians? Why can’t everything go right? Oftentimes, people outside our faith want to use setbacks, as a way to discount our faith or to prove that God doesn’t care. But Christians experience setbacks just like everyone else, but the Bible gives us the answers to why we experience setbacks. It’s God’s way of growing us.

07:04
The Bible shows us how to handle setbacks. The New Testament is filled with applications on how to live as a Christian. And Paul in Second Corinthians speaks to how we should view setbacks. With Jesus we can find strength in weakness. So finding your strength in your weakness in your setback. Second Corinthians 12:9, but he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you. For my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I boast all the more gladly of my weakness, so the power of Christ may rest upon me. Paul really realizes that Jesus has all the power and can take this thorn in his side, as it’s referred to. Paul understands who Jesus is, his power and authority, as a deity and as God. But Paul also realizes that the pain and the setback of his problem is keeping him humble. Paul experiences throughout all of his writings, many revelations and an undescribable visit to heaven if you read revelations, and he could easily fall prey to spiritual pride. But his setback his thorn in his side, keeps him humble and clinging to God, knowing that he can’t take this from himself. He can’t do it all in his mind in his power. This setback really keeps Paul clinging to God.

08:44
Our health is one area many women experience setbacks. I’ve experienced setbacks myself, and finding strength and perseverance and relying on God’s grace during times of weakness. When you’re establishing a healthy lifestyle, you will face setbacks. Let’s think about some of those one week. Usually in the first month, you’re really geared up, you’re really focused. But then a setback could happen one week, you won’t get in your workouts, or you’ll be eating healthy, feeling great. And then you’ll get caught late at work. And you’ll have to swing through the drive thru to grab dinner. Don’t let perfectionism take over. Don’t let this small setback derail what God wants to do in your life and in your health. Maybe you’re losing weight, you’re feeling great. And then you go on vacation and you gain most of it back. Does that mean you have to throw in the towel and stop? Maybe this is happening to you right now. Maybe you’ve hit that setback and it’s been a day or so and you just can’t find the momentum to keep moving or maybe a setbacks happened to you in the past and it’s kept you from pursuing where God is calling you to, but you’re ready to try again.

10:06

Now what? When this happens to you, you really have to decide when setbacks happen to you, you have to decide, will I keep going? Or will I let this difficulty this setback end my pursue? Will I decide to lean on the Lord and find strength in His strength, and ask him to overcome my weakness, or will I let Satan win and give up on where God is calling me because I can’t do it on my strength. God is challenging us, humbling us with our setbacks. And when you can’t do it in your own strength, but you do decide to keep going, pray hard, and no, use this scripture and know that this is what God wants for you.

10:57
Your perseverance in setback helps to strengthen your face. And it also allows God to show off and shine. It allows God to flex his muscle on your behalf. Because after a setback, when you just allow God to take over, giving him body, soul and spirit and just say, Lord, I know you want this, but I need your strength to do this, he will show up and it allows your faith to grow. It humbles your spirit and allows the Holy Spirit to take over.

11:31
II Corinthians 12:9, Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weakness so that the power of Christ may rest on me when we can’t do it in our strength. And we say that we recognize that and we pray and call out to God, His Spirit rests on us, and Christ rests on us. And we get to boast in His power and not our own. And if this has happened to you time and time again, with your health, you don’t have to give up. You never have to give up. You’re never too old. And it’s never too late to take your health seriously. So take the time to meditate on this scripture. Let it minister to you, pray and ask God where his strength can take over in your setback. And if you feel like you don’t want to go it alone and with love support and community, then hire a coach. Let me help you learn how to make the mindset shift and hold you accountable and actually doing it. Actually getting healthy. If every woman would find their strength in the Lord and decide that she would keep going until she reached her goal, or keep going until she’s secure in the will of God and what He is calling her to. This would empower so many women all around us to face every obstacle head on and to not run into fear that they can just lean on the Lord this would strengthen their faith to know. I don’t have to do it in my strength because God has called me to it and he will see me through it. And if this is you, or if you know someone who needs to hear this, will you share this episode with them, please. Share it with your friend or your sister that you want to be your health accountability partner. This way, you’re both on the same page and you can understand that setbacks will happen. But someone can continue to share and continue to strengthen you pointing you towards scripture and just sharing this as you need help with accountability and they might need help with accountability when setbacks happen. I appreciate you tuning in and listening. And I look forward to hearing about your success in your health journey in the way Jesus is moving in your life.

13:56
