Hi, Friends, Welcome to the Fit Christian woman podcast, I hope you are having a beautiful day, wherever this catches you in the day, thank you so much for listening. It really blesses me to know that there are women out there wanting this transition, wanting to be healthy, whole, and healthy, in body, soul, and spirit – so thank you.
Today we’re going to talk about negative self-talk.
We’re gonna start by diving into some scripture. If you view the Bible as holding the truth, and that’s the way I view it, then it’s time to kind of dive in and see what the Bible says about our health. And I’ll be doing this often, bringing new scripture, expanding on it, letting you know my interpretation but I always want you to be doing your own research as well.
The Bible is living and breathing and God wants to speak to you through it. He doesn’t want to just use me. He wants to spend that time with you and reveal more and more truth, something deeper, something that really can kind of ping your heart and change you, so I always encourage you to explore the same scripture that I’m referencing for yourself.
Don’t just take my word for it, allow God to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you.
So today, we’re gonna review the 1 Corinthians 6:19 and 20, and this is one that you’ll hear me talk about, one that you hear many women in the health sector talk about when referring to health, and that whole body, soul and spirit health and that is because it is very clear and straightforward.
It brings a lot of aha moments to many people, many people may have read this, so it’s 1 Corinthians 6:19 and 20 and it reads this, “do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God, you are not your own, you were bought at a price, therefore honor God with your bodies.” And really what this is referencing and I’m going to kind of break it down, we have received a gift from God.
Once we accept Jesus into our heart, we are able to have the Holy Spirit there.
He intercedes for us, He guides us. I don’t do this often but if you’re just finding this podcast, and if you are just exploring Christianity, and you’ve never received Jesus into your heart, it’s very easy.
It’s just taking the time to pray, and I can lead you here. So you’re going to just come to the Lord with an open hand and we just can follow along and pray the simple prayer. “Father, God, I accept that Jesus is your son, that he went to the cross and died for me. I believe that he was dead for three days and rose again, and his blood has covered my sins. I confess that I am a sinner, and that I’ve been living apart from you, Lord, but I welcome Jesus into my heart. I believe he is the Son of God. And I believe that He died for my sins so that I can be resurrected with you and live in eternal life with you. In Jesus name, amen.”
If you did that, congratulations this is so exciting.
Remember today, remember that the change some people feel instantly. And now that you have opened your arms to God into truth and to Jesus, you will have access to the Holy Spirit who is our guide here on earth. It is such a gift to have the Holy Spirit. And a lot of times scripture will compliment scripture and you can find the truth again and again.
Romans 10:9 says, “if you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” So just let that sink in.
Especially if you prayed that prayer for the first time. You’ve declared that Jesus is Lord and you will be saved, meaning that you will now spend eternity in heaven with all the fellow Christians and those that believe in Jesus. So, congratulations. It’s super exciting.
Take time to be excited and to share with someone that you’ve done that. Maybe share in the podcast Facebook page, because we are always welcoming and looking for those that just want to know Jesus more and know more of him. So, let’s get back to the Scripture.
1 Corinthians 6:19, and 20 says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?”
This is the gift that I was referring to – the gift that now you have, if you’ve accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit is living in us. And let’s think about what it first says, ‘Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.’
Let’s reflect on that because I want to talk about how God made us, God made you. So Psalm 139, is one that depicts this in many verses, but God knit you together in your mother’s womb, and he formed your innermost parts. And when he did this, he did this in his image, because, again, scripture, references scripture.
In Genesis 1:27, God declares that he made man and woman in His image. So I want to kind of bring this together for you because it’s really important on how we talk to ourselves, not only to ourselves, but how we talk about ourselves to ourselves and to others, how we talk about ourselves in front of our children.
If you were made in God’s image, which we know you were, because Genesis 1:27, ‘He made man and woman in His image,’ that means all of us, all men, all women are made in His image, that didn’t just mean Adam and Eve, that extends to all of us, who are descendants from there. So if he made you in His image, and he knit you together in your mother’s womb.
He formed your innermost parts, you are intricately made by his design, he knows every cell, the Bible also references, he knows every hair on your head, he knows every detail of you because He created you, right?
This is going back to how it’s so important to how we talk to ourselves, about ourselves, and how we talk to others about ourselves because if you are made in God’s image, and you insult yourself, you are ultimately insulting God. And I want that to sink in because this changed my whole mindset when it came to self-talk, ladies, so I’ll repeat it.
If you were made in God’s image, and you insult yourself in front of the mirror time and time again, you are insulting God.
I could not knowingly do that, once I really put that together. It doesn’t mean I got it right the next day or even the next few weeks. But I refuse to knowingly insult God. So I would stop and catch myself, with my negative self-talk, every time I would pass a mirror or, or when I would stand there in front of it. I would stop and think about that. Take every thought captive. And then I would start to change it. And this has made such a big change in my mindset. And in my self-talk, ladies, I know it sounds so small.
But this will really change a lot of things for you because once you know your value and know your worth in the kingdom of God, you no longer allow others to treat you any less and it helps your confidence.
And it really just takes you into your purpose and takes you into who God is calling you to be. So we beat ourselves up so much, ladies, we are our own worst critics. I know it, I’ve lived it.
It’s time to break that cycle.
So if God made you every detail of you, which he did, and if you’re made in His image, then it’s no longer okay for you to stand in front of the mirror and insult yourself and think anything less than how amazing you are and how God created you so amazing.
Again, I didn’t get it right the next day, but I came to this realization and I knew that something had to change because I wanted to be fully known and I wanted to represent Christ and represent him well. And I can’t just do that out on the street, I have to live and breathe and be that all the time. So when I stood in front of the mirror by myself, I couldn’t beat myself up anymore. I had to stop the negative self talk because that’s not representing Christ, right. And I don’t want to be a hypocrite and be one thing, one place, and another, another place.
So if I’m going to be all in, let Christ fully transform me, that counts in my personal and my quiet time.
In my deepest, most personal time that I think no one’s around, and no one’s listening. I have to be Christ-like there. And then I have to be Christ-like when I’m out in the world and in front of a lot of people, because it matters. To be fully transformed, it needs to be every second of every day. And we’re so lucky, because God is taking that time to fully transform us in all of those moments.
It’s not like we get it right all the time, because we’re sinners, and that’s okay. But if we’re always chasing after God, and chasing after doing good, then how we talk to ourselves counts, even in our personal time. And referring back to 1 Corinthians 6:19, and 20, ‘do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you whom you have received from God, you are not your own, you were bought with a price, therefore honor God with your bodies.’
Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, whom we received from God, is that just not amazing?
That is just showing the Father’s love for us. And in John 14:16, I believe it is, Jesus said, “I will ask the Father and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.” And that’s referencing the Holy Spirit.
And Jesus continues in John, and he says that ‘the advocate or the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said’. Really, he will be our guide, Holy Spirit is our guide. What a gift and how this shows the Father’s love is just that he no longer wanted to be apart from us, because God is three and one, he is a triune. God, he is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
He comes and lives within us, which is a beautiful gift and shows his love. And this is how because in the Old Testament, God was not with all the people all the time, he was in a cloud and would come down, or he would be in the Holy of Holies, where he would meet with just one priest.
He wasn’t communicating and talking with all the people the way he does now. And what a gift that is that we can pray and come directly to God that’s not the way it’s always been. And when you reference the Old Testament, there used to have to be avenues and ways that you would have to cleanse yourself and repent of your sin.
We should always be repenting of our sin.
But we get to do it just for us. We don’t have to send a priest to repent for our sins, which is such a gift. Because it creates that intimate relationship that we get to have with Jesus and the Holy Spirit and the father because he’s given us this gift. And he wants to be with us and be intimate and close with us. This is so it just blows me away. It shows the Father’s love so much. This realization that God is always with us, he is able to constantly redeem us.
If you repent and turn to him, and you let Him lead, even if you stop to think about it and you pray. It’s really the Holy Spirit’s work for you. If we follow his lead, it’s so amazing that he will just redeem us, we just stop and think.
He convicts us to show us when we’re wrong. It’s never condemning like, oh, no, I’m wrong, I need to go and hide. It’s more like, oh, I shouldn’t have done that. And the Father will reach out and show us in love, how we faltered, and then how we can do better next time.
It is such a blessing to have him living inside us and creating that relationship with Him. Because He is able to redeem us at any time through anything. And he’s always sitting there with outstretched arms to just take us in and to say, yeah, you messed up, but you can do better next time. Let my spirit lead.
He says to us, ‘Let me show you how I can continue to redeem you through all of this’ and he wants to do that through this scripture too, ladies, for taking this scripture and realizing that our bodies are important. They housed the Holy Spirit and they were bought with a price. Jesus’ blood on the cross was the price. So we need to honor God with our bodies by not just keeping, you know neglecting them or keep punishing them. A lot of times women will use food or exercise as punishment. And we don’t need to do that ladies.
Let’s honor God with our bodies by giving it nourishing food by moving it so it stays healthy and limber and without pain.
And let’s just honor Him with our bodies and doing the things we know we should because we’re drawn to the Father in love, because the Holy Spirit is in us. And this is his home too. And let’s honor him and show him how we love and respect him back by treating ourselves well.
I hope this is shedding some light as we kind of dive into this scripture. And again, I want you to make it your own, take time to read the Scripture, ask the Holy Spirit to guide and lead you through it.
The best part of this scripture, I think, is just that God has more for you. If you’re not dead, then he’s not done – just like that popular Christian song has said lately. If I’m not dead, then God’s not done.
So take this information, study it for yourself, study this scripture. These are just some of the truths that God has revealed to me, but the Bible is alive and breathing. And God can make this so personal for you. All you have to do is be intentional. And ask, take the Scripture and turn it into a prayer, ask God to help you make your body a suitable temple for his spirit.
I really think that what Maya Angelou said was that, do your best, do the best that you can until you know better, then when you know better do better. And God talks to us, it’s an amazing gift, let his voice lead in – let it lead you into the future of what he wants for you.
So let’s pray over this. I want to kind of give you an example of praying the scripture of how it can come in and change and transform your life as it has for me. As I’ve sat down and taken time with the Lord over just the Scripture and seen his truth revealed and how important our bodies are, and why we need to care for them.
Father, God, I thank you, I thank you for everyone listening, I thank you for the truths that your scripture brings. I think that the Bible is a living, breathing entity in our lives. Lord, we thank you for the gift of your son and how his blood has shed and covered us and redeems us, Lord, we thank you that if we did not know our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit that we do now, Lord, and now that we know, we can start honoring you with our bodies. Just as your scripture says, my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, whom I’ve received from you, God, thank you for that gift. I am not my own. And I understand that I was bought with a price. And Jesus’s blood was that price. Your son was the price Lord, and I want to honor you with my body and move forward. Lord, I need your Spirit to help lead me. I have been neglecting my body. I have been punishing my body. I have not honored you the way that your Scripture declares that I should with my body. And I want that all to change.
Lord, I thank you for the truth that you’ve revealed to me in Scripture and the way you will continue to do so. I thank you that my body is healthy and strong and you made it in your image. I am so thankful that you called me to you and that I get to be a daughter of the king. I will honor you with my body, Lord and I will let your spirit lead in doing so. It’s in your son’s precious name that we pray. Amen.
Thank you ladies. I hope that this has just kind of seeped into you. Listen again. Take time to muddle over the scripture on your own and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you but it is such a fun thing to see. Really all the truths in Scripture that just lay it out and how we should live.
I’ll continue to highlight those for you ladies. And then you just take time and dig into it yourself. It is so empowering. You are strengthening your Spirit. You are getting stronger not only physically but spiritually when you dig into scripture for yourself. Thank you for tuning in and I can’t wait to chat with you again next time.
